Monicah’s Journey: Balancing Family, Work, and Education Against All Odds

Balancing studies, work, and family is one of the biggest challenges young mothers face. Sleepless nights, endless responsibilities, and moments of doubt can make it seem impossible. Monicah knows this struggle well. Her journey was tough—stressful, exhausting, and sometimes overwhelming. But with determination and hard work, she proved it was possible.

Monicah always wanted to continue her education, but she wasn’t sure when to start. After getting married, she left her job and started a computer services business. Life became even busier when she had two children. Managing the business while taking care of her family was no easy task.

Despite her efforts, the business struggled financially. Bills and debts piled up, forcing her to make a difficult decision. She moved the business to Turbo, where her husband had built a house and shop. It was far from Eldoret town, but stability was her priority. The shop wasn’t ready, so it took six months before she could open. When she finally did, customers came, but not as many as in Eldoret.

Just as things started to improve, political violence changed everything. After the elections, Monicah and her family were forced to flee to Nakuru. Their home in Turbo was burned down, and they lost everything. Returning was no longer an option, so her husband bought land in Nakuru, and they started over.

With no business left, Monicah sought employment in Nakuru town. During this time, her dream of furthering her education resurfaced. By then, her daughter was four years old, and her son was one. They couldn’t afford a nanny, so she had to manage everything herself. But she was determined and enrolled in a Business Management degree program.

Balancing school, work, and family was extremely challenging. Monicah had no free time, so she created time. She studied late at night, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., and read while commuting to work. Her husband provided unwavering support throughout her journey. She paid for her education bit by bit, using any funds she could gather.

Before she knew it, she had completed her first year, then the second, third, and finally, the fourth. The journey was difficult—she made many sacrifices, endured sleepless nights, and sometimes doubted herself. But she never gave up, and in the end, she succeeded.

Monicah’s story is proof that wanting something is not enough. You have to take action, stay strong, and push through challenges to achieve your dreams.

No matter how tough life gets, Monicah’s journey shows that with hard work and determination, success is always within reach.
